Accessibility Statement
Our products make buildings work better for everyone. Our website should too.
Our commitment
Green Drain builds products that protect people in buildings of every kind, in over 100 countries. We believe the information about those products should be available to every person, regardless of ability or the technology they use to access the web.
Accessibility is not a feature we add at the end. It is a design principle we build into every page from the start. We are committed to meeting or exceeding the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA across our entire website.
What we do
These are the specific measures we take to ensure greendrains.com is accessible:
Semantic HTML
Every page uses proper heading hierarchy (h1 through h4), landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer), and meaningful HTML elements rather than generic divs. Screen readers can navigate our site structure accurately.
Keyboard navigation
All interactive elements - links, buttons, form fields, accordions, and navigation menus - are fully operable with a keyboard alone. Tab order follows a logical reading sequence. Focus states are visible on every interactive element.
Screen reader support
We use ARIA labels, roles, and attributes where native HTML semantics are insufficient. Navigation toggles announce their expanded/collapsed state. Decorative elements are hidden from assistive technology with aria-hidden.
Color and contrast
Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text). We do not rely on color alone to convey information. Links are distinguishable from surrounding text.
Motion and animation
All animations on our site respect the prefers-reduced-motion operating system setting. When reduced motion is enabled, scroll animations, marquee effects, and transitions are disabled entirely. No content depends on animation to be understood.
Forms and inputs
Every form field has a visible, associated label. Required fields are clearly marked. Form controls use proper input types (email, tel, text) and autocomplete attributes to work with autofill and assistive technology.
Responsive design
Our site adapts to all screen sizes and supports text resizing up to 200% without loss of content or functionality. Pages are usable in both portrait and landscape orientations.
Document structure
PDF documents hosted on our site (certification reports, test data) include document titles and are tagged for accessibility where possible. We are working to ensure all PDFs meet accessibility standards.
Conformance status
We aim for full conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Our current status:
- Partially conformant. Some portions of the site may not yet fully conform to all WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria.
- We are actively auditing our site using both automated tools (Lighthouse, axe) and manual testing (keyboard-only navigation, screen reader testing).
- As we add new pages and features, accessibility is reviewed before anything goes live.
We are honest about this being ongoing work. Perfection is not the goal. Continuous improvement is.
Known limitations
We are aware of the following areas where accessibility improvements are in progress:
- Image alt text: Some product and certification images are currently placeholder content. As we add final photography, every image will include descriptive alternative text.
- PDF accessibility: Some older certification documents from third-party testing labs may not be fully tagged for screen reader use. We are working with our testing partners to obtain accessible versions.
- Third-party content: Embedded third-party tools (such as payment processing via Shopify) operate under their own accessibility policies. We choose partners who share our commitment to accessibility.
